5 Tips to Long Lasting Makeup for Oily Skin

Glowing skin is beautiful…only if you have the right skin for it. This is something I was constantly struggling trying to explain to my clients. If you have oily, acne-prone skin, “glowing” makeup is not for you! There are ways you can go around it, but in order for your skin to look flawless and have it last all day, follow the steps below!

  1. Use a water-based primer. Anything silicone based (Smashbox, Benefit) are going to move around on your skin and have your makeup separate throughout the day. A water based primer will hydrate your skin and also help your makeup go on beautifully and last all day! My Elcie Cosmetics Pearl Radiance Primer is perfect for this because it is water based but has the smallest amount of pearl to give your skin a healthy glow - but not luminous! Stay away from luminous primers as well.

  2. Apply a loose translucent powder before your liquid foundation; I know, WHAT?! This is a makeup artist secret. The loose powder will matte out your skin but also help the foundation grab on to your skin stronger & longer. It also helps with your foundation to go on more full coverage! Tip: Use a fluffy brush and press it all over your skin, especially your T-Zone.

  3. Use a liquid foundation - stay away from creams! Cream foundations look beautiful but they never really set - so you will look really oily throughout the day unless you have normal to dry skin. Also, make sure you are use a satin to matte foundation, stay away from descriptive words like: Luminous, Glow, Shimmer, etc. Look for words such as; long lasting, matte, natural finish, all-day wear, etc.

  4. Bake. I always say, baking is not for everyone; but darling, its for you! In order for your makeup to lock in place and not get shiny throughout the day, you need to bake! The oilier your skin is, the longer you should leave the translucent powder on your skin; this will assure your makeup is not going anywhere all day! Tip: use a lighter shade to brighten the center of your face and a darker version to set the rest of my face so that you don’t look pale.

  5. Setting Spray is crucial for those of you who are baking. Although we want full coverage, matte skin - this also means that your skin will look really dry once you’re done with it. Using a setting spray will not only lock your makeup in place, it will take away the dry finish and help your skin look like skin again! The Elcie Cosmetics Hydrating Spray is perfect for this as its Alkaline based and really hydrates your skin while locking your makeup in place.

If you follow all of the steps above, I GUARANTEE your makeup will stay matte and last ALL DAY! Please make sure you are not only following these steps but also using the RIGHT products! Also, if you are only oily in your t-zone, then follow these steps only in your t-zone. For example, only bake your t-zone, only apply loose powder before your foundation, only on your t-zone, etc.
